The Loyalhanna Review
2007 has been a difficult year for many nonprofit arts organizations, and Ligonier Valley Writers has been no exception. The well-deserved hiatus of several long-serving members and the sad passing of one of our founders, Tina Thoburn, left huge holes to be filled in our group. It is only through the dedicated efforts of a small cadre of members and faithful supporters that our mission and this publication have been able to continue in our twenty-first year.
LVW has provided lessons and sponsored a poetry contest for students from elementary through high school, and a fiction contest for adults, awarding prizes and recognition at all levels. We have supported our members and engaged the general public by partnering with bookstores, libraries, and historical groups to feature local authors and to present Help Desk Programs on topics of interest for every writer. The group is dedicated to providing practical tools and creative inspiration to sustain both emerging and published authors. The Loyalhanna Review is a tangible result of both our artistic motivation and our public outreach.
We encourage all novice or veteran writers to join and share their time and talent with the organization. We also welcome non-writers. They can benefit from social camaraderie and entertaining discussions. Volunteers from all walks of life have historically supported LVW. The way we value cultural experiences, can only enhance visitors’ perceptions of the Ligonier Valley and bring business to our community.
We hope readers enjoy the works in this issue. Please patronize and thank our supporters and advertisers who are helping to sustain the efforts of Ligonier Valley Writers.
